Not only do I agree with BubbaGeek, but I also think the watchlab loses credibility by using such weak arguments. Except for the luxury / trendy and ease of access to time, it has no other valuable advantage. As for your answer Mel, phones are also a masterpiece of engineering skill. You do however use a third argument, which is true: the collectability of watches. When your product starts to be sold to be collected, you know you have a big problem.

Fine, but your mobile phone is a costly depreciating non asset. Whereas a nice non bling watch need not be expensive to buy, is often a masterpiece of engineering skill, unlke a phone which is just a box of taiwanese silicon chips built cheaply and is designed to be disposable. How many phones compared to watches produced over the years are truly collectable or indeed not obsolete by design? You clearly do not appreciate the finer things in life..............like skilland fineness

Here's why watches will be relegated to mere jewelry...

I always have my phone with me. I always keep it charged. I use it all day everyday for calls, texting, web, email, music, and so on. It is an essential tool for my everyday life. So I always have on my person a device that tells time, has timers and stopwatch, acts as an alarm clock with unlimited confiurable alarms, etc. If it breaks I will buy another because I need it. I keep it charged because I need it. I put it in airplane mode and still can play games on a plane. Fact is that a watch would be a separate expense that gives me nothing beyond my phone other than bling. I should probably just buy a bracelet - doesn't need batteries.
